TRAFFIC FLOW

Traffic flow over the LAN will be subject to access control lists. This will prevent unauthorised access from the curriculum network and any external networks onto the administration LAN. Traffic from each segment will be allowed to freely flow to the Internet and back. Only packets with the acknowledgement bit/s set will be allowed into the network from outside the district network. This will prevent unauthorised access from external networks. Acknowledgment conditions will be set in the access control lists on the firewall router and the local school site router.

Routing updates should occur freely within the WAN. Care should be taken when deciding on networks to advertise in order to prevent large routing tables being sent all over the network frequently. Split horizon utilized by the IGRP routing process should keep routing updates small and have minimum impact on bandwidth while ensuring efficient convergence times. Updates will occur every 15 seconds.
